Education
Dr. Backstrand is a clinical psychologist licensed in both Oregon and Washington. She earned her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from George Fox University (GFU) in 2015, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from GFU in 2012, and a Bachelors of Arts In Psychology, with a minor in Spanish Language & Culture, from Oregon State University in 2010. She has worked as a clinician and evaluator in a variety of settings, including community mental health, private practice, schools, the forensic/court setting, and with law enforcement/public safety agencies. She has experience with a diverse clientele of all ages and from numerous backgrounds. She currently offers individual therapy to adults using a combination of Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy approaches. She specializes particularly in anxiety, stress, adjustment issues, and First Responders; she is a Certified First Responder Counselor. She also offers psychological, cognitive, and developmental evaluation services for all ages.

Dr. Backstrand offers a supportive, client-centered approach, while also using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to decrease symptoms, increase insight and coping, and improve psychosocial functioning.
