Jenny Thom LPC
Education
I hold a master's degree in counseling and a sex therapy certification from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). I am a 200-hour registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance and I am currently enrolled in a 300-hour Yoga Therapy training program with Sarahjoy Marsh. In my trainings, I'm discovering that by integrating somatic tools to meet and support the whole person- body, mind and relational- that we can co create the most powerful context for healing and change in your body, relationships and or lifestyle. I have experience working with individuals, couples, adolescents and adults in mental health and addiction settings, residential and outpatient settings.
Services Offered
I have a client-centered approach to empower, educate, and bring attention to the felt experience that facilitates the ability to change limiting habits, unwind and release what is no longer supportive and re-sensitize the body. Areas of focus for supporting people include healing from sexual traumas, stage of life, dating, relationship and intimacy coaching, sexual functioning concerns, desire, gender exploration and affirmation and cultivating body acceptance.
I believe that our body is a source of wisdom and a vital interface for change. By bringing the body to the forefront of our awareness, we can access embedded emotional, relational and nervous system patterning and create shifts. Just as the traumas may have been an intuitive survival response, we can learn to trust our bodies to heal and release trauma at a pace that is safe for us. I have heard it said, "the issues are in the tissues".
Theoretical Orientation
Internal Family Systems
Offers a clear, non-pathologizing, and empowering method of understanding human problems, as well as an innovative and enriching philosophy of practice that invites both psychotherapist and client to enter a transformational relationship in which healing can occur.
Polyvagal Theory
Understanding and learning to regulate our nervous system states.
Attachment Theory
Recognizing the impact of our early relationships on our ability to form meaningful, secure and intimate connections as adults.
Note: I may integrate breathing exercises, meditation practices and if warranted, gentle restorative poses to support nervous system regulation, to reduce or manage chronic pain, increase awareness, flexibility, strength and balance in your life.
Clients should be aware that counseling presents both benefits and risks, as they seek to make changes in their lives. The progress of counseling will be reviewed throughout the process, and modifications will be made as needed. The counseling room is a place of openness, with no judgement or bias.
