Education
Jacob got his bachelor's degree in Philsophy and Master's of Social Work at Portland State University. He has been a counselor in both inpatient and outpatient settings for mental health, addictions, and domestic violence (prevention and response) agencies. Jacob is under the supervision of Matt Lauzon, LCSW.
Services Offered
Jacob does both individual and group counseling. While he is not currently doing group counseling at Western, he will at some time in the future.
Theoretical Orientation
Jacob tailors his approach to each individual client according to the feedback he receives from them, and often has conversations about what is and is not working for his client. He thinks of his client, himself, and the therapeutic relationship in the context of society's patterns that may be encouraging or discouraging their movement towards greater equality and liberation. Some tools in his toolbelt are Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness techniques, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
