This group aims to support cancer patients as they navigate their own cancer care, from diagnosis to treatment. Cancer can significantly impact one’s psychosocial functioning and state of emotional and mental well-being. Our interest is to create a supportive forum where people currently receiving cancer treatment can find comfort among each other to discuss areas of cancer care such as: newfound lifestyle and role changes, accepting and asking for help where needed, effectively expressing vulnerable feelings, and individual existential discoveries and concerns. This group’s format is considered process style and is guided by the teachings of Irving Yalom. It will focus on cancer care through the eyes of those undergoing cancer treatment. We welcome members who are in any active phase of cancer treatment with any stage and type of cancer.
All clients must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- Have a cancer diagnosis.
- Not be experiencing cognitive or psychological deficits that could potentially interfere with own or others participation in the group.
- Current LifeStance clients will complete a brief phone-screening prior to beginning the group.
Either group leader is medically trained or licensed Any discussion of treatments or symptoms will stem from a psychosocial functioning perspective rather than an intent to provide medical advice or suggestion.
