Theoretical Orientation
I believe that although clients often enter therapy feeling overwhelmed by a problem, everyone possesses the strength necessary in order to overcome obstacles and move toward a place of not only healing but self-empowerment. Therefore, in my work I support clients in turning a new page to a narrative which focuses on wellness rather than pathology. My approach focuses on assisting clients in moving beyond labels of diagnoses or feeling stuck by a problem to discovering or rediscovering strengths and solutions.
My style is non-judgmental, compassionate, sensitive and honoring of both individuality and cultural diversity. My approach is client-centered where I maintain a strong belief in the client's inherent ability to move toward positive growth as I take a collaborative role in supporting the client's journey toward self-awareness. My passion includes women's issues such as the distinct challenges related to motherhood, parenting, young women moving into adulthood, postpartum issues, relationships, self-esteem issues, body image, and self-care. Other special interest include anxiety/depression, stress management, self-esteem enhancement, relationship development, phase of life transitions, and cultural diversity issues.
As I honor the uniqueness of each individual, I incorporate a variety of therapeutic theories, some of which include:
*Cognitive behavioral therapy which addresses the impact of thoughts and actions on behavior;
*Solution-Focused to address clients' internal resources and strength;
*Family Systems to explore the family unit and its dynamics;
*Narrative Therapy strategies for exploring and re-authoring problem-saturated stories;
*Mindfulness Therapy.
