Mara Owens LPC
Mara attended Southern Oregon University and obtained both a Bachelor of Art in English and Writing (2004), and and Master's of Science in Psychology (2007) respectively. While at SOU Mara spent her intern year in the University's Queer Resource Center where she developed her passion for ensuring quality care for LGBTQ+ youth and adults. First an Organizational Development counselor, Mara worked with a variety of organizations to assist them in seeking a holistic growth mindset. In 2017 Mara pivoted and began work as a mental health counselor, working toward licensure in practice with an agency in Medford, Oregon. A Licensed Professional Counselor since 2019 Mara's primary focus in practice has been with LGBTQ+ youth and families, with an emphasis on WPATH guided trans affirmation and family acceptance supports. Additionally, Mara has had successes with assisting those who struggle with depression, anxiety, and grief and loss.

Mara works from a holistic, person centered, feedback informed place, using aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT),Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Mara is an avid reader, in the cooler months tends to knit, in all seasons spends a lot of time walking and hiking, and loves a good road trip whenever the mood strikes and timing allows.
