Iulia (Julia) Vasile LMFT
Education- MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Lewis and Clark College
BS in Psychology from Portland State University
My professional work experience began at DHS Child Welfare where I worked as a permanency caseworker for 2 years. During graduate school I practiced at the Lewis and Clark Community Clinic where I saw adult clients for individual and couple therapy and interned at DePaul Treatment Center where I did individual, group, and family therapy with 13-18 year old clients who were struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders. After graduating from Lewis and Clark I worked for Catholic Community Services as a community based mental health therapist seeing clients ages 5 to 18 who struggled with severe suicidal ideation, self-harm, aggressive, and impulsive behaviors.
Individual, Family and Group counseling.
I believe therapy is a process of exploration to achieve an understanding of self and others in order to improve life experience and reach self-actualization. My objective is to develop a strong therapeutic relationship and obtain a deeper understanding of my clients' struggles before establishing counseling goals. I utilize many systemic therapeutic approaches in my individual and relational work but the two I primarily employ are Structural and Emotion Focused Therapy. I place a strong emphasis on early attachment figures and how these relationships have organized current perspectives. I understand that our experiences are influenced by our social location and I take into account the intersection of race, class, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and ability in order to obtain a more holistic picture of my clients' lives.
My interests drastically change depending on the weather. When it's warm outside I enjoy hiking, biking, and exploring new neighborhoods downtown. As soon as the temperature drops below 65 degrees I become a homebody. During winter months you will most likely find me under a thick fuzzy blanket with a cup of tea and a non fiction book.
