James' theoretical orientation is that of contemporary Applied Behavior Analysis. He believes that all children can learn and make progress and that skill acquisition programming should be informed by typical childhood development. He utilizes Evidence-Based interventions including Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT), Natural Environment Teaching (NET), Video Modeling (VM), Functional Communication Training (FCT), and Behavioral Skills Training (BST). James believes that learning should be highly motivating for the child, focus on communication and making social interaction reinforcing, and developing skills that will benefit the child in his or her natural environment for many years to come.

James enjoys backpacking and exploring the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest when he is not working, particularly the Mt. St. Helens area. He also likes to take advantage of Portland's amazing music, movie, and food scene.
