Philosophy / Approach to counseling:
My approach to counseling emphasizes a collaborative process through which we can harness your life experiences, strengths, innate wisdom, and personal values to guide you towards the life changes you desire to make. I am committed to forging a compassionate and relational therapeutic alliance with my clients that creates space for vulnerability, growth, insight, and increased psychological flexibility. My approach is grounded in cultural humility, social equity, and a belief that you are the expert on your own personal, social, and cultural experiences. In our work, we can acknowledge and explore the role systems, culture, and community play in shaping your overall wellbeing. I draw from the following therapeutic modalities and techniques in my clinical work: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Education / Training:
Travis earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Portland State University. Prior to attending graduate school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) from San Francisco State University, where he graduated cum laude. Travis began his education in mental health work over a decade ago at City College of San Francisco, where he completed a community mental health worker certificate program.
