Ruth Cooper (LPC, LMHC)
MA in Counseling Psychology, Lewis & Clark College, Portland, OR, 1992. Over 20 years experience. Certified Core Beliefs Psychotherapist since 2008. Intensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) 2/2014
Individual therapy. ACT 8 week groups.
Ruth is eclectic in her approach to therapy, using a variety of techniques to meet the client's needs. She primarily uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as psycho-education and often works with client's dreams. She is certified for Core Beliefs Psychotherapy (CBP), a therapy that is effective in quickly and effectively changing a person's core sense of inadequacy. See the website core-beliefs-psychotherapy.com for more information. Ruth's primary approach for the last 2 years has been Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT). Her clients practice ACT skills in therapy, which helps to reduce stress and worry, handle painful thoughts and feelings more effectively, break self-defeating habits, overcome insecurity and self-doubt, and create a rich and meaningful life. Ruth has found ACT to be the most effective therapy approach, both in her own life and the lives of her clients. "The Happiness Trap" is the self-help book she uses, and practicing the skills is necessary to improve.

I was a Hospice Volunteer from 1997-2005, initially providing respite care, then co-leading an adult bereavement group with a local hospice provider. On a personal note, I have a daughter. I enjoy reading, walking, bicycling, gardening, dream work, and creating mosaic art.
